I was recently on a podcast with my dear friend, Navin Goyal, who asked me about a time I needed to push through something hard and what I learned from it.

You can listen to the full episode here.

Truthfully, there have been plenty of underdog moments and times I needed to push through something hard. One of the hardest…? Food poisoning as an overnight news anchor. I had to anchor 4 hours of LIVE TV.

Can you imagine?

Yeah, I couldn’t either.

Guess what? I survived! I can now look back on it and laugh.

No, I didn’t puke on live TV, but here’s what I did.

I told myself, “You only need to get through the next 10 mins.” Those are the ‘blocks’ in television before we go to a commercial break.

I took it minute by minute, second by second in some cases.

It made me realize that we all have to take it minute to minute, hour to hour, week to week, month to month, and even year to year at different times in our lives.

Have you ever been in such a difficult situation that the only real solution is to just keep going?

What’s the alternative?

You may be thinking… “Call in sick!”

I was the overnight anchor for MSNBC and NBC News at the time. So when food poisoning strikes at 10 p.m. when you arrive at work there is no person on standby to cover an overnight shift without notice. Everyone is asleep.

So you, just keep going.

On the other end of these experiences are great stories that one day you will share on a podcast, in a newsletter, or with your kids about how to accept harsh realities.

Adversity reveals character. Pushing through challenges shows our true strength.

Motivation and determination help us rise to the occasion in difficult times.

Persevering through struggles makes us better in the end. It builds resilience.

Just keep going.
